UA urges DRC to delay poll result announcement

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 18 - The African Union (AU) on Thursday called on the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to delay the release of the final results of the general elections held in that country on 30 December 2018.,

In a statement issued by the organization after a special mini-summit, attended by several African heads of state in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU said that there were still serious doubts about the counting of votes and asked for clarification.

For this reason, an African Union delegation, made up of the organization's Acting chairperson, Rwandan Paul Kagame, Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat, will travel to Kinshasa (DRC) on Monday to see the situation with the local authorities.

Under the Electoral Law of the DRC, today the Constitutional Court of this country should make public the final results of the elections.

DRC has been in a state of tension since the release of the provisional results of the presidential, legislative and provincial elections held on 30 December, which give victory to candidate Felix Tshisekedi and the Alliance for the Presidential Majority (AMP) party.
